Yamato Nadeshiko ("Perfect Woman") : Episode Two
Romantic scene at the lake during Osuke's and Sakurako's date
Sakurako shows Osuke the apartment building where she supposedly lives and is surprised to hear Osuke comment on how beautiful it is, as she thinks his own mansion is so much fancier. He changes his words to say that he didn’t expect there to be such a beautiful neighbour living near him. Meanwhile, she says that she too had often mused on who lived inside the grand mansion of his…
They then proceed to walk to his mansion, where they are going to eat sashimi from her catch of the day before, but as they enter it, he tries to stall her. Luckily, Higashijujou arrives in time and asks to speak to her, so she leaves with him. After they leave, the real home-owners open the door and is surprised to see Osuke standing there!
In the car, Sakurako tells Higashijujou how Osuke has one thing that he doesn’t, and it’s something that is very important to her, much more important than a big hospital – his "pin". She apologizes and leaves, and Higashijujou sits there mulling over her words, wondering what "pin" she’s talking about.
At Sakuma’s, they tell Osuke off for not telling Sakurako the truth, saying that he shouldn’t lie to her anymore. But Sakuma’s wife, Mariko, is supportive, saying that it’s been 7 years since Osuke last kissed a girl. Meanwhile, Osuke is feeling totally helpless.
The next day, just before her flight to London, Sakurako calls Osuke who is in the midst of a chaotic scene at the fish market. He hurts himself and says "ah…itai" (it hurts) but Sakurako mistakes it for "aitai" (want to see you) and says she too wants to see him and arrange to meet him on her return from London. After hanging up, she tells her crewmates that she’s refused Higashijujou and has decided that Osuke is the one for her, and she is also giving up on gokons. They’re surprised that she can fall in love so suddenly but tells them it’s not "love", it’s "marriage" that she’s talking about. Sakurako says to them that "a girl must move quickly, while the going’s still hot – once the passion cools, then it’s no use." She comments that it’s unfortunate she couldn’t meet Osuke’s parents the night before, but in a way, it’s good that Higashijujou showed up, so Osuke can see how someone really wants to marry her, and it should prompt him to propose quickly.
Nami goes off to one side to call Hanabusa but he’s too busy to talk to her, so she calls Kasuya instead, who is naturally delighted to receive her call.
At dinner that night, Sakuma finds Osuke and Kasuya both a little strange in their behaviour and starts to question them. Kasuya says that while his date is not as big a deal as Osuke’s, he has received a call from Nami to go out. Sakuma is naturally jealous but his own phone then rings and it’s Wakabe asking him to attend a gokon. Sakuma agrees and turns around to find his wife smiling at him! Mariko tells Sakuma to advise Osuke on which restaurant to take Sakurako on their date, and says a little teasingly that he must pass on some of his dating skills to Osuke, as he has accumulated so much experience…
The flight crew is preparing take-off, and the chief purser tries to ask Sakurako out on a date, saying he knows of a good sushi place in London, but when she invites the whole crew, he takes it back by saying it’s "haiten" (round-table – kind of like fast-food) sushi.
At the hospital, Sakuma has told Osuke’s mom about his upcoming date and she encourages him on it, making Osuke uncomfortable. After she leaves for her check-up, he tells Sakuma that he doesn’t have money for flowers and a fancy restaurant because he needs to pay his mom’s hospital fees. Sakuma then says he’ll extend Osuke’s mom’s stay at the hospital for another week, to give him more and says in the meantime, he can spend the money he has on his date with Sakurako.
As the crew lands in Tokyo, Sakurako’s crewmates comment on how Sakurako must be so tired as she didn’t rest in London but went shopping instead. Sakurako tells them that the stuff she bought was for Osuke’s date, and she spent a lot of money, including an expensive Hermes pin to go with Osuke’s Jockey pin.
She arrives for their date dressed in all her expensive finery and Osuke takes her to the place that Sakuma recommended, only the doctor had messed up and it’s a strip joint! (Their expressions are so funny!)
Sakurako then suggests they go to a restaurant she knows, only it’s Nobu (Osuke supplies their fish) so he tries to pass himself off as a frequent customer when they go in. Higashijujou is in the same restaurant by some freak coincidence and sends over a big bouquet of roses. (Osuke quickly hides his own puny bunch of flowers behind his seat.) He then comes over and introduces himself to Osuke, saying that he heard from Sakurako that Osuke too was a doctor and asks where he studied. Osuke names a school and Higashijujou asks if he knows the medical professor who taught there and he says yes – which is unfortunate because Higashijujou happens to be dining with the guy, and so he brings him over!
Meanwhile, Kasuya is in a strip joint with Nami, and as he’s telling her how he works in a bank and is not a doctor, he accidentally lets slip that Osuke isn’t one either…
At the same time, Sakuma is at Wakabe’s gokon, and she comments that if Osuke wasn’t a wealthy doctor, then he wouldn’t be cheated by Sakurako… and Hanabusa says wryly, "then Osuke doesn’t have a problem"… which raises the girls’ curiosity and they start pestering him and Sakuma over the reason for the comment.
Back at Nobu, the professor is luckily very drunk and mistakenly recognises Osuke (although he calls him "Nakahiro" rather than Nakahara!) and seeing Osuke’s skill in cutting up a fish, even comments to Higashijujou that he wished their hospital had someone with his skill! Meanwhile, Higashijujou has finally noticed Osuke’s Jockey pin. But as they leave, Higashijujou overhears the conversation between the chefs about Osuke and asks them who Osuke really is…
Sakurako asks Osuke what he’s been sitting on all night and he sheepishly hands over his puny – and now crushed – bouquet. But she doesn’t seem bothered at all and happily accepts it. (But despite everything going so well on their date, the evening is costing Osuke a fortune!)
Meanwhile, at the gokon, the girls are staggered to find out the truth about Osuke, and worry about Sakurako’s reaction when she realises that he’s a poor fish-shop owner, telling Sakuma how Sakurako is obsessed with finding someone with a lot of money, and in fact had spent a lot of money on the expectation that Osuke is the person she’s looking for. Realising how serious the situation has become, Sakuma calls Osuke on his mobile and tells him to come to his house for a conference. But Osuke asks Sakurako to go with him!
Nami too knows about Osuke now, and as they part at the end of their date, Nami tells Kasuya enticingly how she wished she could find someone who truly cared for her, and Kasuya can’t help himself from flinging his arms around Nami and kissing her. But she doesn’t seem overly bothered by it, and just tells him to warn her before kissing her next time. She then says "oh look! There’s a love motel right here…", getting Kasuya’s hopes up – but then dashes them the next minute by saying good night and walking off.
Kasuya’s naturally frustrated and wonders if Nami’s just playing with him (of course she is!) and he’s still groaning over it at Sakuma’s house, when Osuke arrives with Sakurako.
Sakuma pulls Osuke over to one side and tells him what he’d learned about Sakurako being someone who just cares about money and finding a rich man, and nothing else – and that she is definitely not the right person for him! Before Osuke can respond, they’re called over by Mariko to join the group and they then sit around and make small talk.
Sakuma tells Sakurako how Osuke got his nickname of "Parsley" in university because that’s what his hair always looked like. They talk about how no one ever eats the parsley that comes with the sandwich, but then Sakurako says that she loves parsley and that she eats it! Kasuya tells her she mustn’t because when he worked at a café, they used to always re-use the parsley over and over again! Mariko says to Osuke how it’s nice he finally found a girl who likes parsley.
Later in the pantry, Mariko remarks to Osuke on Sakurako’s likeness to his ex-girlfriend and tells him not to worry too much even if she does find out the truth about him because she’s a good person.
As they leave, Sakurako tells Osuke that she had a good time and envies him for having such good friends. He says that she too has many friends and she’s always surrounded by people but she says it’s not the same and none of them give her real heartfelt happiness.
They pass by a golf course and she suggests they sneak inside. They run happily through the grounds and end up by a small lake. They take the boat out to the centre of the lake, and Sakurako falls asleep while Osuke watches over her, thinking about what Sakuma had told him and contrasting it with what Mariko said to him.
Sakurako wakes up and is so disconcerted she ends up upsetting the boat and throws them both into the water. As they stand there laughing, they start to kiss…
As they part the next morning, both seem reluctant to part but as they stand in front of her apartment, Osuke tells her to hurry inside or she’ll catch cold. But then she catches him standing there watching her walk him and she tells him to hurry home too, or he’ll catch cold. (It’s a pretty sweet scene...)
Back at home, Sakurako checks her messages and finds one from Higashijujou, asking her to see him saying that he had something to tell her about Osuke.
Meanwhile, Osuke is at his fish shop, when Wakabe walks by. She’s obviously there to check out his shop, but she hides out of the way as a little boy approaches Osuke and asks him for help with his math. After the boy leaves, Osuke sees Wakabe, (but doesn’t seem to really recognise her) and she awkwardly comes forward, saying that they’d met at the gokon… He’s unnerved that she’s Sakurako’s kohei, but then she quickly asks for some fish, which he gives to her for free. She tells him that she will keep his secret for him and not tell Sakurako. But he says that it’s ok, he’s planning on telling her the truth the next time they meet anyway. Before she can stop herself, she blurts out "no!" but then is unable to explain why, and lamely asks if she can just come again, because she loves fish.
Sakurako meets Higashijujou in a café and he tells her how Osuke’s not a doctor but a fish vendor and he again proposes to her, taking out the engagement ring. But she doesn’t believe him and in frustration, he tells her to check it out herself, and gives her the address of Osuke’s store.
As she’s walking home, Sakurako calls Osuke on his mobile and he tells her that he’s outside the hospital taking a break after having just finished an operation. She says that she really wants to see him, even though they just parted not long ago, and she really misses him… As they’re talking, she ends up in front of his store and looks up to see him there…
Osuke apologizes to Sakurako for lying to her, saying that he wanted to tell her the truth but each time, she would look at him so trustingly that the words would die in his mouth. He’s scared that she’ll hate him for the lie and he wanted so much to make her happy. She says "so you think I’ll hate you for your poverty" and he says in a relieved way "of course she’s not that sort of a person and won’t judge people like that" but as he’s apologizing for thinking that way, she turns to him brightly and says "I hate you already" and leaves.
When Sakurako gets home, she gets a call from Higashijujou and agrees to marry him…
